Introduction


Goff Junior High School is located on Newport Avenue in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. The school is in a mid-size city. It only consists of seventh and eighth graders. This school holds approximately 523 students and 48 full time teachers. It's student to teacher ratio is 10:1.(“Information Works: Rhode Island Public Schools 2008”) Many parents seem to provide good feedback on the school and are satisfied with the education that is provided for their children.

Community Background

The town of Pawtucket was founded in 1671. The area of Pawtucket is about nine square miles. Joseph Jenks from England is credited for being the first person to establish a dwelling in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. The first water powered cotton spinning mill was constructed and opened here by Samuel Slater. In 2007, the community of Pawtucket had about 76,396 residents. Of those residents, 36,800 people were male and 39,596 of the population were female. Pawtucket is a blue collar community and has an important manufactoring center. One of the most known places in Pawtucket is the Slator Mill Historic Site. Pawtucket is home of the baseball team the Paw Sox. (“Pawtucket”)

Goff Junior High School is home to seventh and eighth graders. It's community consisted of 9074 students with 784 full time teachers. Thirty-six percent of teachers have reported that the lack of training is a moderate or major problem. Nineteen percent of teachers have been in the field of education for more then 25 years and only three percent of teachers have had one year or less of experience in the field of education. Statement: According to the chart shown above, the highest value ranked was a 3.7 in the indicators of clarity of behavior expectations and rules and disciplinary harshness. The least value according to the chart was general quality of school life which was ranked at 2.8.

Conclusion


Overall, Goff Junior High School is a school that has well-experienced teachers and good teaching curriculum. The main focus of the school is to educate students equally and provide them with knowledge that they will carry on to the future. The administration of the school is very well educated and cares much for the children. They are all aware of what they are teaching their students and how to help the students in any possible way. In addition, Goff Junior High offers many programs that allow children to be better educated and receive help when needed. This school located in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, offers seventh and eighth graders the opportunity to expand their knowledge in many ways and show the children what they are capable of doing.
